Hmm, I don't know. The small brewery that's making Club Mate here in Germany doesn't do any PR/advertisement.

It's also a hassle to get it here in Germany outside of Berlin. I'm living in a 300k pop city and there's only one store that sells Club Mate.

So I wouldn't really believe it to be some marketing tactics.
